The collapse of the USSR in 1991. And the declaration of independence by my homeland as well as 14 other states. I am happy it happened in my lifetime and I was the witness of this miracle.

Diamond, we have won indeed a lot, we now have a ticket of existence in the future. Whereas, with Russia, we had no future as a nation. I think that national dignity stands higher than economic profit. Moreover, I do not consider Saakashvili as a maniac, I do not consider Stalin and Beria to be Georgians. Your vision of my nation appears to me totally wrong.

Russia predatorily plundered the historical territories of Georgia and dramatically diminished our chances of survival as a sovereign nation. All the remaining events, like people who have to leave their homeland, is proceeding from the barbaric actions of Russia and represent direct results of the wars. I personally have no wish to cooperate with an occupant country, many Georgians share my opinion and I hope we shall be able to persuade even more of my compatriots. Russia will find desperate resistance in my country and will have to leave our borders sooner or later. |

Our king (just one) wanted an alliance with Russia, not to become a subject of Russia. The history proved that the king of Kartli and Kakheti, Irakli II was wrong and Russia brought destruction to the region, not peace or prosperity. Abkhazia and Ossetia appeared due to the actions of Russian Secret Intelligence service, Russia used the 200 years of dominance in the region to undermine our territorial integrity, to use migration of the conquered peoples of the Caucasus and to put "bombs" that would explode if we attempted to go free. Abkhazia was a Georgian-speaking part of the whole Georgia before the Russian conquest and "Southern Ossetia" did not exist at all. Georgia can be not in a very good situation now but our situation definitely improved since we left Russian sphere of dominance. I hope, never again shall Georgia be fooled by "the same" Orthodox Faith and look again towards the north to Russia for whatever relationships.

I do not consider the renegade Shevardnadze to be a Georgian. Many russified or russianized subjects of Georgian origin (not Georgians in a strict sense!) served to the cause of the invader USSR. Please remember that Georgia which chose independence in 1918, was annexed by the USSR in 1921 using the military force! What about Armenia and Azerbaijan, they were not robbed their territories by Russia. The only country which is in the same situation as Georgia, is Ukraine. And Ukraine is engaged in military actions with Russia now.
Let's cut the long conversation short. This is a history section, not the section of ideology. If you wish to continue our discussion about the modern geopolitics in Eastern Europe, I bet we should go to that section. What about my opinion about my favorite event in the history, let you take my information as a mere fact.
