Are you for it or against? And why? The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. To sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. I am 100% against it. If it is arranged by the Most High God... I am 100% for it.

A TA in an Astronomy class I took at UNC (an Iranian named Medhat Ghaffari) explained it to me when he was on the way to the airport to pick up his bride that he never met. I was 18 years old and found this to be really strange.
Medhat said, "when you are young, you really don't know what you want in a life mate and are likely to make the wrong decision for the wrong reason. Who will look after your long term interests better than your parents? In Iran, we let parents make this decision because we know that we don't know what we want when we are young."
I have been a respecter of arranged marriages ever since then. Although it is easy to cite a case of a bad parent, this is abnormal. The statistics on arranged marriages and "Western style" traditional marriages bare this out. From what I remember, roughly half of normal marriages in the US ends up in divorce of the ones that choose marriage. I don't know what the statistics are for arranged marriages, but it can't be worse. This recognizes that any marriage is not happy because it takes a lot to get thru it.
There is no happiness in divorce. Any divorce attorney is perfectly willing to listen to you while you tell your tale of woe at ~$250/hr. However, the "pie" (which will be divided 50/50) is getting smaller and smaller while you weave your tale.

Medhat had a happy marriage while he was alive. I have a traditional, Western style marriage, but I am still married. However, my wife is not happy because she cannot tame the horse and ride him (me). The same thing would be true in any culture/country. Women want to be in charge and when they are not, they become very unhappy. Ask any guy in any country. There are differences and this difference is absolutely wonderful.

Medhat was a follower of Meyer Baba, who took a vow of silence because it had already been said. Anybody that travels from India and sets up a Holy Center in Myrtle Beach, SC like Meyer Baba did is someone special. My hat is off to him. I liked what he had to say. A Ouija Board board is how he communicated. His only communication was "Don't worry! Be Happy!". Bobby McFerrin made a song out of this. The most famous other follower of Meyer Baba was Peter Townsend of the Who.
Medhat traveled back to Iran and when the Islamic Revolution occurred, I knew any contact I had with him would be a death sentence for him. If the Islamic revolution did to followers of B'hai what they did (which came out of Islam), I could only imagine what they would do to a follower of Meyer Baba. I found out from his son in California that he did have to flee Iran and he became a professor at the University of California.

I spent quite a lot of time today on this question. At first, I thought if he was disguised it must be a pretty good disguise. (I had to sent this pix to my gmail address)
I am not a follower of Meyer Baba and don't know very much besides what I read. What I read today was that he was born in India of Iranian parents who followed Zoroaster. He claimed to be Avatar for the Age and became blessed by holy men in the Hindu, Islamic, Christian, and Buddhist faiths. He was 16 in 1910 and died in 1969. During his lifetime, he was blessed particularly by Islamic mystics call Sufus and set up a Holy Center in Myrtle Beach, SC and Brisbane, Australia as well as his "home turf" in Meherabad, India. He did not claim a particular religious faith. Instead, he said he was the latest incarnation of God, which included Visnu, Jesus, Buddha, and Mohamed as previous examples. So, 14 hours later, I still can't give you a definitive answer.
