Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us in knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:22). This statement in the Genesis account demonstrates the plurality, or Trinitarian nature of God. Notice the pronoun: “like one of Us”.
(The above I found on a Christian website)
Or is it that "Us" refers to God and his alter-ego Satan. God has mastery over the evil side of his nature and makes it his servant? Are we not just the same as God, having our evil side? But is it not true that many of us fail to control our evil side - which often controls us? Jesus was tempted by his evil side and overcame it?
Would this not explain the mixture of beauty and cruelty found throughout the natural world as well as our human world?

I have been following all the comments on this topic. Nobody has answered why, if we are made in God's image, can God not have an evil side? We all have one, some more able to control it than others. Surely, God (and Jesus) have total control over theirs? And maybe some of the angels have lost control of theirs?

We already been told that the evil side arose from the original sin..God, unlike man, is strong enough not to fall into the negative side of the essence of disobedience to God.. Shrug

And God and Jesus just want us to follow that example and conquer our evil sides.
Sorry, you posted just before me, Diamond. What if man's original sin was not disobedience but a lack of integrity in taking something that did not belong to them? Eve putting her own wants ahead of what was right, and Adam following his wife without a second thought. The serpent being the evil side of Eve's mind.
Second edit: Also Adam and Eve had to find out the hard way that God has an evil side. They had only known him to be kind and gentle and could not believe that he would actually carry out the death penalty for such a (to them) trivial offence. But God knows that we only learn by mistakes and he knew it would happen that way. God wants us to know him and to know ourselves and not to be fooled that he can do no wrong.

Surely, God (and Jesus) have total control over theirs? And maybe some of the angels have lost control of theirs? We were made in His image but we lost that image. God gave us free will. He didn't give us it because He has a dark side but because He didn't want to force us to live in His image or in other words to be like Him in the way He is. It's like a parent telling a child not to hit their sibling and say but you can choose not to obey me and hit them and get in trouble. So parents and God are trying to teach you the good way but you may not want it because you've free to be your own self. Shrug

Where is this evidenced exactly? The evidence is as compiled by the Catechism of the Catholic Church: CCC 391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy. 266 Scripture and the Church's Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called "Satan" or the "devil". 267 The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: "The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing." 268CCC 392 Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels. 269 This "fall" consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. We find a reflection of that rebellion in the tempter's words to our first parents: "You will be like God." 270 The devil "has sinned from the beginning"; he is "a liar and the father of lies". 271CCC 393 It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels' sin unforgivable. "There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death." 272CCC 394 Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls "a murderer from the beginning", who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father. 273 "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." 274 In its consequences the gravest of these works was the mendacious seduction that led man to disobey God. CCC 395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him." 275

3) Lucifer is anything other than a poetic device used by many authors symbolizing the Morning Star?
NO NO NOKing James Bible Isaiah 14:12 King James Version (KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isaiah 14:12 (NIV) How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! SATAN CHANGED THE NEW BIBLES TO DECEIVE YOU
Revelation 22:16 “ I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.JESUS CHRIST IS THE MORNING STAR!
Lucifer is nothing but a JOKE!
Have you bothered to read any of this thread? This verse has been covered many times over and explained clearly. As for the "Lucifer is nothing but a joke" comment. Just as I respect everyone's Beliefs and Faiths here, I would expect the same.

Lucifer has nothing to do with the Abrahamic faiths, he is NOT the Satan found in the Abrahamic myths. Lucifer as a deity is not mentioned in the Christian bible, but the word 'Lucifer' is used adjectivally as a title. The biblical use of the word Lucifer is personifying the Morning Star of Phoenician/Canaan cosmology.
Lucifer the Roman-Greco deity is mentioned in Publius Ovidius Naso's "Metamorphoses", which was written in 8 B.C.E., the Roman poet Virgil mentions him as far back as 29 B.C.E. And the first mention is from Timaeus by Plato in 360 B.C.E. This Lucifer is also portrayed as a Lunar deity unlike his usual association with Venus.
The Hebrew translation had the word Helel in the place of Lucifer, and it was St. Jerome who replaced the word Helel with Lucifer. Helel means ‘shining one’. In 382 AD, Pope Damasus I commissioned St. Jerome to write a revision of the old Latin translation of the Bible. This task was completed sometime during the 5th century AD, and eventually, it was considered the official and definite Latin version of the Bible according to the Roman Catholic church. By the 13th century, it was considered the versio vulgate – the common translation.
The use of the name Satan in biblical texts is correct as it comes from the Hebrew 'ha satan' (the adversary), this is the correct title for the devil in Abrahamic cosmology. Lucifer, as a deity, is pre-Christian, and a pagan god from the Roman-Greco era.
Lucifer is not Satan.

Just a quick thing. Of course you can agree or disagree and have free will to like or dislike an opinion but do remember everyone has the free will to abide by whatever belief they wish. Just saying so things don't get out of hand here

You have a rather materialistic approach to God. Only the Church and the Bible quite clearly explains all Him functions..everything else is human speculation!

Quite true..he only pretends to be an angel of light(Lucifer )but he's not.. Satan can only be called 2 canonical words -satan- or -devil- .
