Because I did not fight in the war! for me, this is unacceptable! But if I lived in the era of world war 2 I would have went to war! And how would you know if you lived in the WW 2 era? It is a coward's answer Mothman.I will not fight now, but of course I would have done then. No one knows what they would have done. Only what they will do now.

Diamonds answer....Sorry not good with computers I wrote my position due to situation in my country now! No one will fight for a rotten and treacherous corrupt regime especially in the 21st century! At that time we had obvious to all that Germany was the enemy because they illegally entered our territory, opened the bombardment of cities and in the end declared war! A lot of people have been killed or captured and so on! "Entered our teritory" And where is your teritory? See,just entering a teritory still wouldn't make them an enemy in everyone's eyes. For example,in former Yugoslavia, some teritories literally showered them with flowers and ovations. To be specific it was parts of Croatia.Others opposed them. Also, some Baltic countries recieved them very well at first. You can find some intresting examples in just Yugoslavian literature of other nations being either just as fashist as Germans were or at the very least just as infected with anticommunist and antisocialist hysteria. My territory is Ukraine! Yes, we also have the sad experience of collaborators... but I studied the archives and saw clearly that many people after the liberation of the territory from the Germans occupants masse joined the Red army! Why? Because they were tired of life under occupation and did not want this for themselves! It became clear to them who the friend is, and who the enemy is!

I didn't, of course. But anyone here? Or maybe even been through a war in your country? The word war is a little broad - unless used as an umbrella term to include military actions, coups, tribal uprisings, martial law, civil war, terror etc If you count all those then yes I have spent time in a war like situation - in Zimbabwe, DRC and Rwanda. Most people who experience things like that don't talk about it much - the words don't make sense except to someone who was also there.

Glad you are ok though. Hopefully, it wasn't too bad. But why in two places? You lived in both?

Now we are reaching the agreement on some issues. In fact I think that we should open a new thread with this topic. About Ukraine? About WWII in general and the point of viev of the people who did or didn't participate. But if you want about Ukraine, that's fine with me.I've read a thing or two about eastern front.

I was a volunteer - back in the days when the organisations themselves funded you to go rather than today's somewhat glorified 'travel experiences'! I worked in schools mainly, but that generally translated into rolling up your sleeves and helping with whatever needed doing in the local area. Initially I was just outside Harare - and my time there was relatively quiet - however for various reasons I was asked if I would be OK transferring to first Rwanda and then DRC. Those were not quiet.

Me personally no but my father and and grandfather fought in the bosnian war. They were in the Army of Republic of Srpska. They fought together and won many battles such as defending Ozren from a huge attack ftom the so called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I too wish i fought for my country but i was bourn later. Shame.
