Woooooow! How could they not know?! That's like super easy. You unscrew it and screw in a new one and turn on the light. Just wow. What is the world coming to?

...and 82% don't have the confidence to clean their car, 74% don't have the confidence to assemble a piece of furniture, 79% would not try to paint a shed, 75% don't know how to defrost a freezer, 73% can't fix a curtain rail, 66% can't put up shelves... I blame their parents.

Some years ago, a couple of female students told me that one fuse kept getting blown out. I asked what power consuming appliances they used, and the answer was: "NONE!" That was a bit confusing, so I went over to their apartment, and the first thing I saw was a 2000 watts fan oven set to max. I pointed to it, and they said: "But that is so small!", referring to its physical size. Then I looked at their fuse, and turns out they used 10A where they should have used 20A. I asked why, and they said it was because 10A fuses were cheaper. But, although this was rather silly, it's nothing near what's described in this video:
At least the female students had the initiative to go out and buy new fuses, and even to call for help when it didn't work out, which is quite different from not having the initiative to change a light bulb. I suspect that this is a confidence issue more than a matter of stupidity. Had they gone out and bought a light bulb, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to figure out how to change it.

They might not know that they can actually buy light bulbs in stores? If that is true, then I need to find a safe place for the coming apocalypse.

I think technology (like for the young generation) with them being glued to their phones is the problem. They don't learn anything in life but how to click buttons. And you can't click a button to change your light bulb. But then they can Google how to change it. Or they don't know they can do that? If so, can I get an address to this safe place for the coming apocalypse?

Praise of Lord, I'm the one of those 20%. I can repair many things by myself. For example, I was fixing USB-flashes, MP3-players, charges, and the other devices.
Love the electronics!

This is scary. However, perhaps part of the solution to mass unemployment as machines automate more and more will be solved by the increased demand for people with common sense to offer "common sense as a service" for these 80%.
