Scholars say that Plato made up the story to make a point about morality. I believe the story is true and would like to argue in Plato’s favor. I have found physical evidence that supports Plato’s claim. I have located the small Island of Atlantis. To visit it, follow the map links below. Remember that, according to Plato, the island was 1/2 mile across. It was also surrounded by three zones of water and two zones of land. Based on the map image, how would you interpret Plato’s description? Will it look like this goo.gl/maps/bDApyQfGnWN2or like this? www.quora.com/What-did-Atlantis-look-likeRemember that Plato knew nothing about North America. Why is the circular model unrealistic? There is also other evidence to support Plato’s claim.

That's creepy indeed. Some people tend to say something about things they don't know about and they exact it as if they did know. How do you think Plato knew this?

Solon, one of Plato's ancient relatives, copied the story of Atlantis from the walls of a Temple in Egypt. That is not the only thing Plato described.

There is also other evidence to support Plato’s claim. According to Plato, the island of Atlantis vanished! That is why there has been the speculation that it was in Santorini (the ancient Thera) and was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. (I know, too, of another island, in the Mediterranean, whose center was destroyed; only most of the rim survived, from where people threw bolders on the legendary ships of Odysseus on his way toward his homeland, Ithaka. (There is a long story connected with this, but nobody has claimed that the island in question was Atlantis. Anyway, Atlantis could not be found, except at the bottom of some sea.) Some mosaics from ancient Pompeii depict Odyssean scenes, which can be admired today.

You are forgetting that Plato said the small Island of Atlantis was at the southern end of a continent, which was larger than Asia and Europe together. Also, the notion that the continent sunk was an assumption. Take a look at that assumption:
“For which reason the sea in those parts is impassable and impenetrable, because there is a shoal of mud in the way; and this was caused by the subsidence of the island.”
The continent of Atlantis did not sink! However, most of it’s costal and low-lying areas were covered by huge tsunami waves coming from the ocean. There were no survivors in those areas.

Anyway, what Plato says is hearsay. He is not known for trying to reach Atlantis, whereas he went to Sicily as the teacher of the tyrant of Syracuse... and eventually that almost cost him his life. On the other hand, there are various true stories of sunken cities. Years ago, some French people got permission from Castro to explore the sea around the Island, where they found and photographed man-made pillars or blocks. Do you know if there were any follow-ups and if they discovered any writings on those pillars? See Marine archaeology by Cuba

Plato said: Socrates is my friend, but the truth is more precious! It belongs to Aristotle. So, Socrates should be replaced to Plato. Anyway, normally suited, because Plato might say that.

Plato's dialogues are fulfilled with myths; Protagoras, Horche, Menon... and Socrates personally claimed so many stories, that it's not easy to say which is true.
Atlantis was a legendary island, but it could have a prototype certainly. The problem is not to find just the island, but at least some artifacts of the culture. I'd say this task is more harder.

There are many different versions of who specifically said this phrase! But it's about Atlantis if I'm not mistaken!
