To him all perception is in the mind, so everything that exists only exists based on individual perceptions. Pretty deep, but the old tree falling in a forest question has a scientific answer. “Sound” only exists when vibrations in the air are picked up by sensory organs and then processed. So if a tree falls in the forest, and no being/recording device is around with a hearing capacity, then no sound is made. It’s merely a disturbance in air pressure.

Let me not agree with you. As you said 'the old tree falling problem could be solved by scientists', but it's not necessary a scientific field only (of course, if you understand 'science' like 'is not philosophy, but experimental reaserches') Firstly, we need to decide about the meaning of 'sound'. Sound could be not only mechanical wave, but some kind of representation of something. For example, an avangard singer sings making no sound. Is he making some sound or not? The singer will sure us about his making sound. Or we could watch an old dumb movie, but nobody would say about actors not spelling a word. Secondly, we can presuppose that somebody is able to hear the sound from 'the old tree falling question', but we haven't found him yet. For example, some aliens could hear such sound.
That's why science here doesn't play much role in this question.
