The Uralid race - race, occupying an intermediate position between the Caucasoid(Europeoid) and Mongoloid races. Characterized by straight or wavy dark hair, medium development of the tertiary scalp, mild skin pigmentation, mostly brown eyes, sometimes flattened face, strongly developed fold of the upper eyelid, narrow, moderately projecting nose with a concave or straight back. Distributed in Western Siberia (Khanty, Mansi, northern Altaians and some groups of Siberian Tatars and Khakas and in the Volga region (eastern Bashkirs and other).
Origin:
At various times among the anthropologists, the point of view prevailed that the Uralid race was the result of a mixture of Caucasoids and Mongoloids, then there were more supporters of its non-metisic origin. Currently, many anthropologists tend to compromise, recognizing the presence of both a gene flow between the Mongoloids and Caucasoids, and the contribution to the formation of this race of undifferentiated types.
On the paleolithic site of Mount Mayak (Sidelkino) in the north of the Samara region, a skull is found that is approximately 11.55 thousand years old (a calibrated date), in the features of which scientists see the origins of that ancient formation in which V. Bunak saw the ancient roots of the Uralid race.
