Good question.
Had they genuinely cracked the secrets of life (DNA, genes, etc),
then such chimeras would be commonplace.
We would be immortal.
But the vast majority of what counts for biology and medicine
is academic fraud, little different from piltdown man.
Much like Einstein, black holes, and most 'science' for the past 100 years.
All our modern technology comes from the science of the 1800's.
