In a plain sense, the principle of charity is when you see something written like and say that this is a just married couple: a female and a male. Some could object you saying no! these two are robots, or this is an image with different colours palette, or this is a father who kiss his daughter who's gonna marry on her boyfriend... So, there are lotta explanations. If I'd presented this image there would be much more variants of to describe it. Anyway, the principle of charity is really important; it's more important than you can imagine. To understand that this principle is absolute and grounded into almost every your mind speculation as an axiom (as a presupposition to them) we can look at these arguments: P1) If our world is consisted with tiny particles (the elements) which has some certain movement, and we want to describe a certain local area, then to do this we must describe all the elements and its movement. P2) Describing anything we must add that this certain description has been made by a certain person. P3) It's possible that two descriptions of one certain area that's been made by two persons is similar, but it is not really obvious. P4) We prefer to think that if two descriptions of one certain area that's been made by two persons is similar, then there has been an agreement to maintain the area to be similar in both descriptions. The agreement is what uses the principle of charity. If I see two images like these: I) II) We can say that (i) is a round and (ii) is a round. We can also say that both of these images are smileys. And we can say that as (i) so (ii) are smiling. So, we suppose that there is an idea of a round, or a smile comparing to which we can make our conclusions. It can be explained like this: if we are watching (ii), then supposedly an image like (i) exists in our heads, and when we compare (ii) to (i) we can conclude what it is. It doesn't really matter now how exactly we're getting our images, but an importance of the principle of charity is seen, and the role of it is major. In general it can be resulted in the next phrase: without the principle of charity we would never be able to talk about the truth.
