I have lately used Windows Ameliorated on a second computer I bought back in 2010. Due to it only having 4gb of system memory, I was concerned with the memory usage of Windows 10, particularly since I wanted to push it as much as possible. Windows 10 64 bit uses about 1,7 gb idle, which would only leave 2,3 gb for whatever game I'm playing.
I have Linux on a second hard drive, but something, possibly an ancient BIOS, blocks steam games from working in Linux.
So I decided to install Windows ameliorated, which is Windows 10 where all telemetry as well as unnecessary software is removed. In short, it doesn't spy on you, nor does it run pointless memory consuming programs in the background.
After install, I checked idle memory usage. It read 895 mb. I tested it out with a game that has 4 gb as minimum requirement, and there were no memory shortage as far as I could tell.
Here's more information about it, as well as a download link:

Windows 7 is appropriate. I installed Windows 10 on a low-specs PC. It freezes while browsing and stuck randomly.
Windows 7 is superior to Windows 10. Problem is that even with extended support, it will cease to get updates after 10/1-2023. Windows 10 Ameliorated can then be an alternative. The reason why Windows 10 gets stuck on a low end PC is that it uses at least 1,7 gb of memory idle. So, for example, if the PC only has 2 gb, that leaves very little for software. To compensate, Windows uses the hard drive as virtual memory, which is much slower than regular memory. So what happens is that whatever you're doing gets stuck while you hear the hard drive working like crazy.
Windows Ameliorated uses less than 1 gb of memory idle. On a 2 gb PC, this would leave over 1 gb available, which is probably enough for browsing. Have you tried systems which work on flesh-memory only? – For to not overdriving the hard disk? I have one it's called the XP reanimator or kinda. It has a minimum useful progs on it. I never tried it for games, but such a system saves hard's memory. Actually, I don't even understand why the hard drives amount everything on 'em, including the system. If some crashes occur, as the info so the system will be damaged. Seems the flesh utilities or smth are more safety for it.

I have never tried it. I do, however, run Linux Manjaro on my laptop downstairs from a USB pin. The laptop has Windows 8.1 on its internal hard drive, but I sometimes get stuttering when watching videos in Windows, so for that purpose I use Linux.

For many years I've been worrying about safety if the info. Hard drives are not the best. Recently I've tried to burn double dvd, but it failed, 1,5$ away. DVD's are not the good either. Clouds I hate, because it's kinda weird to save the info on some other servers.

When I want to make sure I don't lose data, for example photos and videos, I use two different backup systems. One is an external hard drive. Second is blu-ray plates. I used to use CD's and then DVD's, but their capacity is to low, which is why I switched to blu-ray. My optical drive can burn 25 gb and 50 gb, but there are drives than can also burn 100 gb plates.
External hard drives aren't trustworthy, and I did experience once losing my data on it, but after restoring the integrity of the drive (erasing the master boot record), I could copy the files back on from the Blu-ray plates.
