I have lately used Windows Ameliorated on a second computer I bought back in 2010. Due to it only having 4gb of system memory, I was concerned with the memory usage of Windows 10, particularly since I wanted to push it as much as possible. Windows 10 64 bit uses about 1,7 gb idle, which would only leave 2,3 gb for whatever game I'm playing.
I have Linux on a second hard drive, but something, possibly an ancient BIOS, blocks steam games from working in Linux.
So I decided to install Windows ameliorated, which is Windows 10 where all telemetry as well as unnecessary software is removed. In short, it doesn't spy on you, nor does it run pointless memory consuming programs in the background.
After install, I checked idle memory usage. It read 895 mb. I tested it out with a game that has 4 gb as minimum requirement, and there were no memory shortage as far as I could tell.
Here's more information about it, as well as a download link:

I was just able to run Witcher 3 on it, which has 6 gb as minimum requirement.

Looks legit and interesting. -- ameliorated.info/index.htmlThanks for sharing. I prefer sticking to Windows 7. Actually a back migration from Windows 8.1 to good old 7.

karl No spying stuff is amazing. How did you (or who's in charge?) do that to W10? What W7 version you and GGHeart can advice me? I want mount it on pc for games and work. And I'm not planning using the net on that pc. I am afraid of glitches and sime technical problems. They say some versions of W7, especially those which are made by various enthusiasts, have 'em. Thanks.

I didn't make Windows Ameliorated myself. You'll find more information about it in the link I provided, as well as the link in Lone's post. But you can debloat Windows 10 yourself, and a youtuber, Chris Titus Tech, has provided a script for that with instructions:
As for Lone going back to Windows 7, my guess is that he reinstalled whatever Windows 7 he had used earlier. If you don't already have Windows 7, you'd have to buy it. Windows 10, however, can be used without a product key.

Thank you. Nope. I don't have. When I bought notebook W8.1 had been already installed on it. So, I think LW is more into W7. Ok, I hope he'll help.

Eugene 2.0Windows 7? Use Gen2 (Generation2) releases. That guy releases monthly updated/patched ISOs of all versions of Windows 7, 10, and sometimes 8.1. You can find Gen2 releases on torrent websites.

Are these the same updates as are provided for those who have paid for extended support?

"Important & Security Only Updates" according to Gen2. Honestly if someone still wants sticking to Windows 7 or 8.1, Gen2's releases are the best in my opinion.

Are there any digital store that still sell Windows 7? Professional and Enterprise volume licensed editions are supported until 2023-01-10. If you have a post-2015 PC or laptop, you better use Windows 10 to achieve best performance and experience. I don't like W10 but the fact is software developers are dropping W7 and W8.1 support slowly. Plus installing an old and unsupported OS on new PCs is not a good idea for several reasons. The reason why I use Windows 7 is because my PC is old and I want to extend its life by using a resource friendly OS like W7.

I see. I'd better looking for the Linux's distributives. W10 is above my pockets.

Windows 7 is appropriate. I installed Windows 10 on a low-specs PC. It freezes while browsing and stuck randomly.

Windows 7 is superior to Windows 10. Problem is that even with extended support, it will cease to get updates after 10/1-2023. Windows 10 Ameliorated can then be an alternative. The reason why Windows 10 gets stuck on a low end PC is that it uses at least 1,7 gb of memory idle. So, for example, if the PC only has 2 gb, that leaves very little for software. To compensate, Windows uses the hard drive as virtual memory, which is much slower than regular memory. What then happens is that whatever you're doing gets stuck while you hear the hard drive working like crazy.
Windows Ameliorated uses less than 1 gb of memory idle. On a 2 gb PC, this would leave over 1 gb available, which is probably enough for browsing.
