I don't know if it's just me but I think it's because they were a little nicer than the people who did colonize. For example, Columbus didn't seem respectful at all when he arrived and some schools where I live ban his holiday because they don't like him.  |

The Ottoman empire was an Islamic empire built on slavery and conquest just like the others and committed one of the first genocides in the 20th century, the Armenian genocide where 1.5 million people were murdered. The Ottoman empire's demise after WW1 was a great positive in history. |

The Ottoman empire's demise at the end of WW1 was a great triumph for humanity. Then Ottoman and Columbus was bad. We really needed someone back then who respected the Natives basically. |
