"He thought he'd 'list, perhaps,
Off-hand like — just as I —
Was out of work — had sold his traps —
No other reason why.
The above lines are from Hardy's poem " The man he Killed". The narrator claims that those who join the military must have done that without previous thought and consideration like himself, and that no one enlists unless he doesn't find any other job, and is desperate for money. Do you agree with his opinion? Why do you think people enlist?

Wonderful and charming poetry!
I cannot be disagree with the immortal author; even not reading these lines all military men, or ones who bear in their hearts the idea of protecting someone, or to sacrifice their own lives does require them following some kind of stoic philosophy. I do the same - not because of loving someone, not because of hating someone - just doing, only job, only work, only subordination, only get orders, and the one and the only one is just to go further.

Because they want to die. I cannot another reason. And they want to kill also ? That could be a bit of the reason too. But they mostly want to die. RIP my unknown biological grandpa who decided to die in a war. And thank you God for still giving me 2 grandpas that I have till today and want to forever keep.

There are many reasons.
- First, middle class, if they have huge number of children, especially, girls, then males may need to join ,as parents cannot afford education, and more over, by joining military, the parent's medical fees gets taken care.
- People can develop many skils, while being in the military quarter, such as learnign programming, guitar etc, there's so much time to spend.
- someone serving in a hard station will give them a good job in corporate, or even admissions in MBA such as Harvard etc.
- They can open business, such as providing security consulting to corporates, or leasing out as personal body guards of top notch elites. These are well paid jobs.
- Most importantly, WE CAN ESCAPE THE GRUDGES OF STUPID MARRIAGES BY JOINING MILITARY
See, having academic degrees is not the only parameter to be successful in life.
Besides, military jobs bring makes one discipline, and one can join politics too, can run for presidential election.
The basic reason, why I would like to join military would be that if there's a MOB attack, I CAN BREAK THE SKULLS OF PEOPLE, for my own SELF DEFENCE.
