Hello fellow humans,
I am researching on gendering of organizations. In a large IT organization. Using ethnographic methods. Its 3 months now and its exciting. Making familiar strange (well, I have couple of decades of org. experience). Anyone doing something similar? Share your experiences of getting in and how you are navigating the field.

Can you share some of the things you learned in your research?

Getting to do organizational ethnography is a challenging enterprise. The first challenge is "how do you get in". In the past, researchers obtained employment in the organizations they wanted to study. But it may not be possible for all. The other way is to request the organization to allow you to do ethnography. Why would they allow you? Unless you research is useful to them. I followed the second route. Gender diversity is something that organizations world over are working on (whether voluntarily or involuntarily). So our interests converged. Then, the real fun begins in terms of how do you position yourself. So far, I seem to be doing well.
