American scientists have discovered the parasite, which became the culprit of the deaths of hundreds sharks off the California coast, according to National Geographic. In 2017, there were more than thousands of "suicides" of marine predators: sharks were stranded and dying of dehydration. The reason for this behavior remained a mystery until members of the local research Fund has sent several dead fish in a Department of fisheries and natural resources of California. The examiners found that the prepared shark was badly damaged brain. "Something penetrated the brain of the shark through the nasal hole and devour it, causing the predators lost orientation, had stranded or died", — stated in the article. Cerebrospinal fluid samples of fish received by scientists from the University of California in San Francisco. Thanks to molecular examination, it was found that the brain of predators eat parasites Miamiensis avidus, which cause similar symptoms on other inhabitants of the sea. According to researchers, the outbreak has caused heavy rains, which reduced the salinity of coastal waters. Changes in the chemical composition of the environment have weakened the immune system of sharks, which made them easy prey for the parasites, scientists say. ria.ru/science/20171028/1507754401.html

That's just crazy, wow. I personally don't like sharks but all this dying off I don't like either since despite it all, I wouldn't want any species going extinct by any reason.
