just a quick question about this Hoplite shield. where did this design originate? what is this auxilia unit? thinking about getting a tattoo on my chest, and I saw this on another forum (which is dead now). dont worry, i am confident my genetic origins have relevance to the Greeks/Romans, of course. i mean, it looks cool, but I care more for the history. i want to adopt a family crest. also, if someone could get me a full picture of the design from a landscape face forward position, it would be appreciated. thanks, and molon labe

Are you asking about how the shield was designed or about the pic of the guy pulling his tongue enameled on it? I think the ancient Spartans had a V enameled on their shields.

The pic of the guy pulling his tongue enameled on it. Do you know the origin? Or even the history behind the design? this is a Greek Hoplite as far as I know.

No, but I found this pic where your symbol appears in the second row on some site about 300. www.300spartanwarriors.com/hopliteshieldemblems.html ← On this page from the same site, they explain the meaning of some of the symbols enameled on the hoplite shields. Maybe you can contact them and ask them what the guy pulling his tongue represents.
