I hear that becoming a math major—especially pure math—is extremely difficult. A lot of these people are pretty much geniuses and are gifted in creativity and logical talent. As someone who wants to study and possibly specialize in mathematics in college, this is really disheartening to hear...
What does Arktos have to say about majoring in mathematics—either pure or applied?

Why disheartening to hear? My math teachers told me to do it but I had too many majors that I liked already. I do teach math now too. Best subject to teach ever in my opinion.

I guess I wasn't clear in the original post, whoops. I'm worried about possibly falling behind if I decide to study math in the future, because everyone else would be smarter. I suppose I'm the only one who could really make the judgement. But exactly how skilled should one be in logical reasoning/problem solving in order to keep up in a university-level math program?

I didn't find university level math all that difficult but then again I always liked math. So, I guess it comes down to you in the end. How easy is it for you? How much do you like even like math? If you consider it a strong subject and one you can pursue then do it. Why not? It all comes down to how persistent you are and how hard you wish to work on it. Or you can try majoring in it for like a year and then changing majors if you dislike it. Not sure how it works for you though in regards to switching majors. For some it costs money to switch majors and for some it doesn't.

I majored in math because I found it to be by far the easiest subject. But the math I learned was mostly useless and I never used it again. I don't understand why anyone who finds math hard would want to major in it.
