Source and full article: More traits associated with your Neanderthal DNAAfter humans and Neanderthals met many thousands of years ago, the two species began interbreeding. Recent studies have shown that some of those Neanderthal genes have contributed to human immunity and modern diseases. Now researchers have found that our Neanderthal inheritance has contributed to other characteristics, too, including skin tone, hair color, sleep patterns, mood, and even a person's smoking status. Neanderthal genes are almost irrelevant to our phenotype. No, having fair or pale skin, red or blonde hair, is not related to neanderthal genetics. This as stupid as saying dark skin is exclusively african for example. Yes, neanderthals had red/blonde hair, and likely pale skin as well, however, it is not exclusive to them. No, we, Europeans or descendant of Europeans, did NOT inherit those traits from them, just like blonde haired mongols didn't inherit theirs from us. The maximum a human being has ever reached of Neanderthal genes is 5%. This amount is very, VERY little to produce an noticible change in the phenotype, and genotype to that matter.
