If I understood well, you are interested in whether algorithms are easy or not? I would say algorithms are essentially hard if you weren't exposed to reasoning things on a micro-level.

Really depends on the professor. The content itself isn't all that bad. If you're looking for a good study resource MIT's OpenCourseWare Algorithms Course has some of the best lectures and resources on the subject I've seen. If you're able to do the assignments for that class you'll ace algos at any university.
