I've been having to work with Matlab for some facial recognition code and it's been a real pain! Randomly rotating images that are normal in File Explorer, not allowing more than one output in the Image Batch Processor app etc. have plagued me for the last few weeks. Anyone here used it before/have to use it now? Let me know if you do or don't like it

Never heard of it. Is it an app or something? It seems fun to try now

Never heard of it. Is it an app or something? It seems fun to try now It's basically a programming environment focused around maths and engineering, but it has some really powerful machine learning and image processing tools. It lets you easily create neural networks and image classifiers for object detection and face recognition etc. It's very expensive to get a license but most universities have an academic license if you want to try it out

I highly recommend the Sage or Julia programming environments. Notably they are free, and they are gaining considerable traction.

I like it. Python is more versatile though and you can concatenate strings using + too....... strcat pls

I used it a lot when I was in Geophysics. It's similar to python. You will get use to it, like with everything.

I had it at university level, so I didn't play as much as you do.

Just used it during my university days. Reasons: Some of my university professors forced me to use it for doing some projects. It's a great software for scientists and engineers. When you use it, it's like swimming in an ocean.

I've used Octave and I'm personally not really a big fan of it. I'd prefer Python anytime over Octave/Matlab

I only used MatLab as a programming language, therefore I don't know about the other tools the platform has to offer, but programming wise it is great for handling data that is in the form of arrays or matrices(such as images). If I recall correctly there are decent machine learning, evolutionary computing, and signal processing libraries.

Used it once a long time ago. I don't remember much about it, but I still remember that it wasn't very pleasant to use. I'd prefer Python.

Most of the programmes at my university use Matlab. The people at mathematics drift toward R towards the end of the education though.

The problem with matlab is, it's not open source and for any form of development it restricts the Community to add anything.
Julia is better way to tackle the same situation, it has matlab like syntax.

One could argue that it's less messy that way. I've heard good things about Julia though.
