This is what i gathered from my friend, She actively participated in such ventures.
I would rather say they had to because this show was long ago.
Considering the situation in the European Union and what it stands for I´ll say no.
I am more of a counselor type. I like to observe, break down the puzzle and then see the pain and gain points. Afterward, I look at what could be the best way to put it back together for both sides. This is where my opinion and analysis is coming from. Any country to me is a Matrix-like system. In where the political, economic, and social order are interconnected and influence each other. In where the changes in one setting affect or influences the another. So, in all these cases, I have used this structure to evaluate the potential of Ukraine en EU success.
For example, the strong sense of unhealthy nationalism going on in Ukraine at that time simply did not fit the EU standards.
Like discrimination between the different ethnic groups for example. The sense of democracy and integrity seemed to be missing as well. No social cohesion among the citizens. Low tolerance towards each other's opinions, views, needs, and wants.
From the economical point of view, the country wasn´t ready to meet the EU duties. Like participation payments and other financial investments, they are obliged to fulfill.
From the social point of view, this conflict between Russian-Ukrainians and Ukrainians destabilized the social environment within the country. It promoted intercultural discrimination to such a severe extent that people ended up fighting about which dishes were Russian and which Ukranian.
The media did a good job in spreading the propaganda and brainwashing the people there. In where the outcome of it was thousands of wasted lives of men, women, and children. So whilst the politicians were playing their political games people were dying. This injustice is horrible to see or to accept.
In here, I am not addressing the interference of US, the indoor political mess at Goz Duma, Timoshenko drama story, the speculations in the local and global news. Otherwise, my response will take super long.
I happen to be sharing the same vision as a Chris Hedges. He is my favorite journalist. That guy is sober, grounded, and realistic. All those pro and con debates are useless. Especially considering all the lives that are getting wasted in the meantime.

The all Ukrainian population was deceived .. it is necessary to admit the lie is more delicious than the truth, but now it was then they realized all the bitterness! Just remind you that the crisis arose after the post to the facebook of a Ukrainian journalist of Pashtun nationality- to go out to the meeting!-
