The Sumerian language is seen as the oldest written language in existence. It is written using a system known as Sumerian cuineform, with a combination of symbols representing each word. Officially, Sumerian is seen as a language isolate, and its speakers as having originated from Central Asia.

One of the coolest things about the Sumerian language is that it implemented a modified sexagesimal (base 60) number system - kind of like how we notate time and angles.
It's honestly crazy how advanced their mathematics were. The Sumerians figured out a complex system of metrology, and the First Babylonian Dynasty dipped into algebra (they solved equations and had a great approximation of sqrt(2)), growth (think interest rates over time), and some of their methods of estimation resemble calculus.
It's interesting to think about how the number system facilitated such mathematical developments - like how 60 is so easily divisible by many basic and frequent numbers such as 2, 3, and 5.

If you do a google search on Sumeria, chances are you'll come across claims that Sumerian texts refer to Aliens visiting Earth. This was even referred to in the documentary series on history channel, "Ancient aliens". It is further claimed that Sumerians referred to these Aliens as the Anunnaki, and that "Anunnaki" literally means: "Those who from the heavens came." This needs to be corrected.
In transliterated form, Anunnaki is written:
dA-nun-na-ke-ne
This consists of five elements:
d = divine a = water, seed, blood, offspring, semen, or, in more abstract terms, the origin of something. nun = noble, prince, royal ak = genitive, means "of" e-ne = plurality for human objects, gods included.
Here's how that merges:
d a nu(n a)(k e)ne
=
dA-nun-na-ke-ne
Losely translated, it means that they are divine and of noble/royal bloodline.
What it doesn't mean is: "Those who from the heavens came." If you wish to write that, it would look like this:
Lu-an-an-ta-gen-na-ne
-Which literally means: "The ones that came from all the heavens."

I do remember learning that Sumarians hold a lot of history in the things we've found pertaining to them. However, I also heard not much of the Sumerian history is taught in schools and stuff. I believe they even had the sodom and Gomorrah event recorded too which scientists refer to it as a super blast from the sky or something like that, I don't remember. The Sumerian people believed it was more divine in nature or from the heavens\God which does support bible. Anyway, more Sumerian history should be taught there is a lot of good stuff there I think.

I didn't know that there was a Sumerian story similar to the one about Sodom and Gomorrah. But, then again, there's a lot I don't know about Sumerian texts, as my knowledge is very specialised around the texts I have actually translated. I presume you wouldn't know, but if you at some point learn what the title of that story was, I 'd like to know, for it sounds like a fun story to translate.

Hereditary Power Is the Enemy of Progress and Began Nerd-BashingThat sounds Indo-European to me. The Jews, who originated in Sumeria, have nothing in common with the rabid Arab rabble, so I think they were enslaved at one time and forced to speak Semitic. The Sumerians invented the wheel, agriculture, sailing, etc. From my analysis of the rise, decline, and voluntary sterility of superior minds, I think that the High IQs who created all those post-StoneAge inventions formed a protective group once the power-hungry stole credit for their creations. They eventually quit contributing to such an anti-genius society and left Mesopotamia, led by Abraham.
