I think the threat perception and anxiety is most in those countries which possess nuclear weapons because of the strategic damage nuclear weapons causes. The anxiety is considerably increased when political leaders make inflammatory remarks and so on due to being entrenched in conceptual boxes due to ideological beliefs and missing of reality as it is. There has been a couple of occasions when the world missed the third world war by a whisker in recent times.
The radioactivity unleashed by all these weapons testing also causes a lot of alarm in the people around these sites for obvious reasons.
