Anyone know if a WWII steel helmet from the department of civil defense still has the same protection as one in the field?

Budk.com sells Swiss civil defense helmets, also Czech. Coleman's.com , Epicmilitaria.com has a large number of them, probably the exact model you'd be searching for with the amount they carry.

This thread reminded me, I have a WWII British helmet in my basement. It was my uncles but it’s weird since he served on the American front

I Think they have the same protection, Both CD And military Helmets used the same Metal Pot design, only difference really being that the the CD Helmets would have marking's painted on them and Military helmets would be painted the needed colour, maybe have a Helmet Net put on it,and then they would get shipped off to where they were needed.

If you ask about a protection against bullets specially some army rifle caliber like 7,62 not to even mention 7,92 mauser..... my guess is NO.In fact I'd put my money on NO.Even for most of the modern day kevlar helmets.
