Unsure what you mean by 'sound better', but I can tell you the only difference between people and peephole phonemically is that the vowel of the last syllable of people is /ə/ (ie. sounds like pee pull), and for peephole it is /ɔ/ (sounds like pee pole), at least for me. The last example would be the first example except the first vowel /i/ is replaced with /ai/. If anything, I hope that's interesting...
