An illustration from an Indian textbook for preschoolers! Two girls are named as opposites of "beautiful" and "ugly". The beautiful, this the blonde, with light skin and bright eyes, and ugly - dark-skinned and dark-haired. This is the ideal of beauty for Indians-blonde, light-skinned blonde.

Quite self-critical for its own race.

lamburk Never understood the essence of these Bindi .. for us it's a mystery! It is mainly worn by the females who are married, as a sign that her husband is alive. And I thought it was for decoration/beauty Shrug Also, if all the married women from India wore them here it could have made me guess correctly but it's not popular here for Indian women I guess Shrug Everyone still does it in India?

Earlier, only the non aryans used to do this. It is something which the old aryans had imposed, to ensure that they are commoners. Noble females/aristocratic females, never. Later on, with these commoners/plebians coming into power, this became the norm as per the hindu culture.

The spots on their forehead usually are little jewels or jewelry that hangs from their hair over the forehead. Think it's supposed to be for beauty and well...it's jewelry you know? I even have jewelry hair pieces its the third eye . the eye of consciousness and awakening they say .
