I say yes. So that everyone can protect themselves incase of invasion. I can't remember which country it was (I think it was sweden) that scared off invaders because their entire population was the army in a sense.

It should be. Military Defends the country NOT from the allied countries or wars but the terrorism inside as well. To keep the country peacefull, It is necessary to have such an organization.

That's like trying to cure the patient who purposely infected himself with very dangerous virus without proper equipment. Terrorism should be prevented, it shouldn't happen in the first place. Ever wonder what is the meaning of counterintelligence agencies?

If we look at ancient times, there were not too many people and nations. But now, seeing that there are more than 200 countries around the world having there own way of living their lives, rules regulations and other things. Military seems to be necessary.

And if you don't like the nation you're part of? Then what? Should you serve?

Perhaps better question is: Would you have the motive to serve such country? If you don't like, you should put your effort to make the administration better of the country if you can not or not willig to do so, than simply migrate to the place which well satisfies you. Thats what I can say. |

I say yes, with no exemptions excapt for verifiable physical disabilities, unlike Trumps bone spurs.
The reason is that if there was Universal military service (not even the likes of the Peace Corps), the children of the wealthy and connected would have to be drafted, and thus they would not be so eager to support wars.
If there was a draft, and no exemptions, like the one Cheney and Trump got, I doubt that there would have been an invasion of Iraq.
Universal conscription is an impediment to the warmongers, bankers, and military industrial complex. It would also reduce the bloat of the US Defense budget.
And this from a retired Air Force Officer, over 20 years in special ops.
