Macedonia will change its name! The authorities of Macedonia are ready for a geographical definition in the new name of the country, which will be discussed at the talks with Greece, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said on Tuesday. Greece does not agree with the fact that after the collapse of Yugoslavia, the republic that became part of it became known as the Republic of Macedonia and blocked its entry into NATO and the EU. According to Athens, the current name gives the opportunity to present territorial claims from the Republic of Macedonia to the Greek region of Macedonia. Athens accused Skopje of usurping the name of its historical province, falsifying the history and ideology of irredentism, which is enshrined in the constitution. Recently, Athens and Skopje have intensified negotiations on the name within the UN. Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said in February that Greece agreed to use the word "Macedonia" in the name of the neighboring country and waits for Skopje to communicate its proposals to the people. At the same time in Greece there are mass protests against the use of the word "Macedonia" in the name of the neighboring country. "The solution can be found, it looks very difficult, it will not be easy ... But we did not expect it to be easy ... I am sure that a solution can be found for this acute, let's say a twenty-five year problem," Zaev said at a special press conference in Skopje. The journalists asked the head of the government what variant of the new name of the republic would most likely be agreed upon by the parties. "I think that our citizens should know, and people in Greece should know this, but first of all, I want the negotiations to succeed, I can only say that we are ready for a geographical definition, and I will stop at this for the time being," said the Macedonian prime minister . He added that on Tuesday the Macedonian government decided to rename the airport and the main highway "Alexander the Great" to Skopje airport and the Druzhba route in order to make a step towards Greece. The Greek Foreign Ministry said earlier that it intends to present a draft agreement on the resolution of the name dispute in mid-February. In the Macedonian media, a list of five variants of the names allegedly proposed by the UN special representative in negotiations Matthew Nimitz - Republika Nova Makedonija (Republic of New Macedonia), Republika Severna Makedonija (Republic of Northern Macedonia), Republika Gorna Makedonija (Republic of Upper Macedonia), Republika Vardarska Makedonija Republic of Vardar Macedonia), Republika Makedonija / Skopje (Republic of Macedonia / Skopje). rian.com.ua/world_news/20180207/1032078275/Makedonia-Greece-nazvanie.html

The whole dispute is silly and amusing. The two best solutions are for Greece to stop being silly, followed by Macedonia renaming itself to Skopje.
Alternatively, they could rename themselves to Epirus to troll Greece harder. xD

- I didn't get it. What makes Greece to be silly?Greece claims that Macedonia's calling itself 'Macedonia' implies territorial claims on Greece. Macedonia doesn't claim any greek territory though, and if it did, changing its name wouldn't change that

- Yeah. It is right. But, it's not a big deal I think. Pronouncing 'Macedonia' we are not always implying 'territory of Greece'. So, as you said:
- it will be allright, cause they don't want to imply that.

Macedonia has four new names for the country, but in everyone there is the word "Macedonia" This is normal because Macedonia is the historical name of this region!
