The idea of an afterlife is a core belief in most religions. This idea has led to some interesting ideas about how our world came about, how we ought to live, how we ought to behave in public, even how we ought to have sex. Some of these ideas have been good, some not so much. But the underlying carrot in the vast majority these religions has been the promise of an afterlife.
For many religions, the afterlife represents reward or punishment, depending on the doctrines and beliefs of that religion. For other religions, the afterlife represents another chance at this life to get it right the next time. And for still other religions, the afterlife didn't have much meaning at all. It's was just a place you went when you died, much like your earthly life, but either more dreary or more lively depending on the religion.
So, my question to you folks is why would you want an afterlife? Are you one of those who'd consider it a reward for a life well-led, or one of those who think you have more to learn and need to come back and keep trying until you get it right? Or someone like me, who's only curious about what's really happened in the past, and what the future might hold for us? And maybe to engage in a bit of schadenfreude at the expense of all those clueless fools still scurrying about in their earthly existences?

I'd want an afterlife tl continue leaving. We have a short life span on earth I think and many die really young even and not really get to live here. But in my afterlife as a Christian there is heaven and hell and our soul gets to live in another completely different place from the fading and aging of the life we have on earth.

The simple human hope that in the afterlife there is justice and will be better than here! According to the religious concept of this world, it is spoiled by sin, so it can not be perfect!

I don’t, I’d rather it just end, I don’t want my soul to live forever in some other realm. I’m hoping the lights just go out and it’s over.

You're gonna run out of things to do in an eternity! xD
When I play Minecraft, and many other games, I have to start a new save every so often cause I’ve done everything I wanted to achieve!
I guess that makes me hope we just get reincarnated...

I hope for afterlife, because i like to continue my journey after my body is become unfunctioning. I despise the idea, that everything is endid after my short life - i always prefer life over death. I don't want to get things right (as christianity teach us) - i want to express myself and have a lot of experience, not limited by any - one life. P.S. I'm believe in God, but have zero trust in organised religions.

If there is a afterlife, I want "reincarnation" variant of it. Because I like to have new experiences and vision of life as a new human or even another creature. I'm sure the eternal life as my current entity would be boring for me.

I'm quite open to the idea that I'll still remain on this earth after death, as well as the possibility of reincarnating (as another human). The idea of a "spiritual world" being separated from our material world ignores the verses which talk about god filling the skies and the earth. This means that the immaterial and the material overlap. What we perceive as invisible is still matter (i.e. oxygen).
There's nothing hopeful about people burning in a hellfire though. How did that even manage to get included in the afterlife?

It can perhaps stem from the ego's desire for continuity in some form, and fear of eternal oblivion, after physical death.
It can also perhaps stem from a deeprooted remembrance in the unconscious mind that death may not be final and something or the other continues after death. This can be true in the context of reincarnation.

for three reasons. the first is that I believe in the hereafter. the second is that I can't accept the idea of that the light goes out of our life and that is the end of everything. the third I believe that things need to be settled in the hereafter, believers and good doers should be rewarded and non-believers and evil doers should be punished

Even when I’m not depressed, I still don’t want my soul to live on. Obviously hell and underworlds similar to hell in other religions seem highly unpleasant. If Christians are correct, the overwhelming majority people aren’t making it to heaven. Regardless I would not want to live in some spiritual realm for all eternity. I don’t feel like it would be my comfort zone.
