Numbers are ratios. They can only exist as comparisons between solid objects. All ratios are axiomatic. All physical universes must obey such logic.
But are all universes physical?
Psychological universes, can imagine illogical ratios. Thus they cannot exist in the physical universe. Or else they would be perfectly logical.
And the mind / society which persists in illogical ideas will be expunged from the logical universe, sooner or later, one way or another, as that which nurtures it will not last forever.

Yes, I also think that mechanicism isn't a good view. Lametri's "Man a Machine" is quite a horror concept. There were times of Romantism in the top, so maybe such view drove Mary Shelly to create her a Frankenstein's monster, and so on. On the other hand, the spirit or non-mechanical side of the reality isn't so brutal and powerful, yet rather tender and silence. It exists between the grey shadows walking on a thin air.
