"Power" is just a myth.
The constitutions of many states state that the people are the power in the state. Once upon a time there were slave-owning times, then feudal times, then capitalist times, and now post-capitalist times, in which everyone is a self-employed entrepreneur. "Power" - is an abstraction in the head.
The fact is that many people still live by some religious or metaphysical law, although some even deny it. How to explain and understand this? People think that "power" is a force or weapon that destroys everything or makes everyone fall to their knees.
In fact, there is no such thing. If people obey the dictator, it is not because the dictator "enchanted" them or literally "down them on their knees", but because the people themselves like puppies get on their knees before him. Not metaphysical force or tranquilizers (although, this isn't an impossible way), but weakened will is the cause of dictatorship.
Of course, different things force people to obey, but the loss of resistance and dignity is one of the most important reasons here. Just remember the times in your life when you wanted to resist but didn't do it: what was holding you back? Why didn't you risk it? "Power", by the way, is always at risk.
I will add only one thing: the state of affairs is also directly involved in the process of struggle or resistance. And indeed, it happens that the situation is harmful, and sometimes it helps. But only a fool in despair is always angry at the conditions.
