Why is the United States so much more violent than other Western and first world countries both in state sponsored violence and private violence? Partly due the blacks and partly do to the South, though black American culture is an offshoot of Southern culture anyways. What you have South of the Mason Dixon (and a little North of it in the Midwestern Hoosier Apex) and east of New Mexico is a warrior culture that takes insults to personal honor quite seriously especially in rural areas and areas first settled by Border and Ulster Scots. Anyways this is an interesting article on the subject and below is an excerpt from it summarizing the main point. now.tufts.edu/articles/armsRichard Nisbett the social scientist referenced in the article did a famous experiment called the "asshole experiment" where he tested the thesis that Southerners respond more violently to personal insult than Northerners as seen below in this Norwegian TV show.

This also relates to what was discussed in regards to hero worship in the other post. Europeans who emigrated to the US were typically extroverted, the kind of people who are more interested in figuring out what works, than why it works. They were explorers, rather than philosophers, pragmatic rather than idealistic. So while they brought with them the medieval warrior worship, they left behind the other type of European hero; The poor, virtuous, and spiritual man. Old Western movies are full of heroes who save damsels in distress, like an American version of the knight in shining armor, minus the aristocratic element. But there is no equivalent to the archetype of the virtuous, introverted philosopher who lives in seclusion and poverty as he only cares for wisdom.
The American idea of a hero has influence on religious hero worship as well. Compare how Jesus was portrayed in the passion of the Christ with this painting from the 15th century:
Jesus here is portrayed with a face that's almost a child's face, completely devoid of any form of anger or defiance. This is the polar opposite to the warrior worship, emphasising meekness, humility, and total absence of any kind of aggression.

Yes, you are right about this. In the United States the poor, introverted, virtuous, spiritual, wisdom seeking man would be considered a bum that needs to get a job. It is not out of hatred for the poor but out of a respect for upward mobility and the Calvinist belief that outward prosperity is a sign of God's favor secularized into the moralistic belief in personal responsibility and a man being responsible for his own lot in life. The United States does have a type of nonviolent hero but again it is full of the masculine will to power. That hero is the self made man, the guy who starts out poor and pulls himself by his bootstraps and his ingenuity and sheer force of will to be a rich man. This is the concept of the American dream and is really pioneered by the North and West Coast where Puritanism and industrial capitalism was the order of the day. I myself fit the poor, introverted, spiritual, wisdom seeker archetype, it just fits my personality and the type of person I am but growing up in the culture I'm in I also hold the values of the two types of American heroes. I very much believe in the American dream and hope to use my natural talents and creativity to achieve great things if God so wills it. I also have a little of the Cavalier aggression growing up in the Deep South. I thought about what would happen if some jerk bumped into me and called me an asshole like in the experiment and the truth is I'd probably get ticked off and curse them out. I'd be livid. Then I thought about my father, who was born in the 1960's before local mores had civilized a bit if someone bumped into him and called him an asshole and I think he'd grab that guy, put him against the wall, and threaten to beat his arse if he tried that again. Its why the South has better manners than the North. In the North they can be rude to one another without expecting the other person to get violent with them but in the South pushing someone too far might get you beat up or even shot. Although I am interested in how all of this applies to Canada. What concepts of heroism do they have and how does it differ from the United States?

I have no clue about Canada. A friend of mine will study there next year, so maybe she'll provide me with some insights then.
One Canadian once stated that being a Canadian was like having one's face pressed up against the world's largest television screen, that television screen being the United states.
Some comedians in Norway did a stunt with hidden camera, where they jumped on top of people's backs in a park in the capital. Only one of the victims tried to punch the guy who did it. I presume that if this experiment had been done in the American south, bad things could have happened.

I mean it would depend on if its a rural or urban area, the race of the people its being done to, and the region as the South is regionally and culturally diverse but yeah I can say with a great degree of confidence that more people would try to punch the guy who did it.

The primary cause of violence in america is: the war on drugs,
which is a deliberate racist false-flag attack to
drive a wedge between peoples of different ethnicities.
Marijuana specifically is at worst harmless, and at best it is the ideal anti-depressant.
When a person has been abused or raped, and
uses the tree of life to heal, and is then systematically abused by the state; often raped again (specifically here it is young males being raped), it reinforces an anti-social personality disorder of catastrophic proportions.
Currently the main instigator of the war on drugs is the WHO dominated by china, which also is the biggest perpetrator of the war on drugs as a whole going back to the opium wars of the 1800's.
Now I have smoked opium 3 times. And its a low grade substance the equivalent of the cheapest tobacco, but with a worse flavour.
You would have to be living in utter misery to find that appealing; let alone addictive.

karl an example of the honor culture of many parts of the South is perfectly shown by this clip where the cast of the British car show Top Gear decided to mess with the people of Seminole Alabama. What many don't seem to understand when watching this is that it wasn't the slogans themselves that set these people off, it was that the slogans were obviously there to provoke them and make fun of them for the region they come from. The fact that they (the Top Gear people) are a bunch of Brits probably didn't help things much either...

Wow. When I started watching the video, I kind of imagined that there would some yelling, hand gestures, and some being confrontative. I hadn't expected it would escalate so quickly, with people throwing rocks at them. I assume the presence of cameras only served to aggravate people more.

I don't believe US is violent. I take it as a myth. US is a peaceful country.
If there are such things these are imaginary, or they happen during nights. As Lovecraft wrote:
IX. The Courtyard
It was the city I had known before; The ancient, leprous town where mongrel throngs Chant to strange gods, and beat unhallowed gongs In crypts beneath foul alleys near the shore. The rotting, fish-eyed houses leered at me From where they leaned, drunk and half-animate, As edging through the filth I passed the gate To the black courtyard where the man would be.
The dark walls closed me in, and loud I cursed That ever I had come to such a den, When suddenly a score of windows burst Into wild light, and swarmed with dancing men: Mad, soundless revels of the dragging dead— And not a corpse had either hands or head!
(A soneth from "Fungi from Yoggoth")

I wanted to say Americans are saner, than many others. British fans, for instance, are totally crazy, and some Germans from Drezden. As far as I can see Scandinavs are sane too. Eastern Europe are not sane time to time. Insane ones are from Caucasus, and the middle Asia territories. Africans are also sane.
