This is a short reportage but in German. A)there is a family which holds annual "coming of dead" that means they pretend as if the dead are really coming to visit and decorate the house and cook food for themselfes and for the dead. On altar they serve the dead a meal and have a dish for the dead. B)a city parade of the dead. With acrobats etc. and people dressed up with make up etc. they celebrate the dead. "dios de laos mortes" and that tradition goes back to the atztecs even, its a thousand years old tradition www.prosieben.at/tv/galileo/videos/2016326-dia-de-los-muertos-eine-parade-fuer-die-toten-clip

Yeah since I have many Mexicans here in Caifornia they do celebrate the Day of the Dead on November 1st here. I personally don't. Death day seems scary to me plus bible says to leave the dead alone so yeah...

Well it says to leave the dead alone but there is also all saint/all dead or like that and halloween etc. where they believe the dead will come. I respect mexicans tradition though and wouldnt lable them anti-christian. But catholics are more tolerant towards such things then protestants, i know you said you dont celebrate halloween.

Yup, protestants are more strict. All I can do is just visit the graves of family members that died and bring flowers to the graves to show I miss them. That's about it though.

Eventhough what we also do and what I learned from my parents is that we smoke a cigarette with the dead if he was a smoker we lighten one up and put it on the grave and we also lighten one up for ourselfes , or that we share food on the grave etc. And we also spray a cross with soda/juice/spirit/beer or any beverage he liked and then we drink for "his soul". sometimes my mum gives out food the neighbours for the soul of my father. shares food for the soul of my father. thats usually on zadusnice (which is like all saints)

Also after the death in the first year there are 3 commemorations with neighbours, family and friends. After 6 weeks, after half an year and after an year. You cook food and invite family and friends. the dead has also his dish, and all eat for his "soul". The food is for his soul. One of the 3 commemorations need to be fast, that means fish or like that.

Man, these traditions actually seem real fun but I never got to celebrate them even though I'm Mexican. My dad is Protestant Christian and says anything to do with the dead is bad.
