Unlike with the old CRT monitors, there is an ideal resolution for LCD/LED monitors. Usually it's the higest, unless it offer interlaced modes. This is why a 1080P monitor will not look its best on 720P, and, similarly, a 4K monitor will generally look worse on 1080P than a 1080P monitor
Morover, to play games with a decent framereate and high graphic settings on the more demanding games, would require one to spend a ridiculously amount of money to continuously upgrade one's computer, to make sure that it's high end at all times. This would also mean that it will consume a lot of power, and produce a lot of heat. Get the latest AMD Ryzen processor, 64 gb of ram, and two GTX 2080 in sli. -And you're good to go.
