How is a man a gentleman in your opinion? This is my list... (subject to increase ) 1. Opens doors (my guy not only opens the car door for me but buckles me in and gives me a kiss for good luck xD) 2. Offers to pay for restaurants/dates more than having the girl pay 3. Offers to hold her stuff if needed at like a store or some place 4. Helps clean or keep things tidy 5. Let's her pick more often whether it is which movie to watch or where to go eat

Well, living in the south; I imagine a gentleman is someone who owns a large cotton plantation and more than 50 slaves. He has an aristocratic southern accent that sounds like an ultra affected English aristocratic accent but with the southern lilt added. He is well mannered and hospitable, good at horse riding, sword fighting, and hunting. He is highly educated, well read in the classics, and is involved in government, civil service, or the military always in a leadership position of thee fields. He throws lavish parties and spends generously on his guests at these parties. He holds to a code of chivalry brought from the days of his European ancestors that involves both the modern meaning of dealing with women and the older definition regarding martial spirit and honor. He has a huge sense of honor and his own reputation which when the latter is besmirched he responds the offender by challenging him to a to a duel if he of equal social standing. He is extremely conservative in the old European sense of believing in natural hierarchical order of aristocrats, peasants, and slaves. His religion is of Episcopalian faith as that is a gentleman's religion. A gentleman believes that sins of the flesh can be forgiven and thus is prone to smoke tobacco or drink bourbon. He is racist believing black people are inferior and are in their natural state as slaves. But you probably meant something else by your question so...

In the Antebellum period of the south, the true aristocrats in that society were people with over 50 slaves. But I don't own any though. Abraham Lincoln said we can't anymore . However my grandmother swears that in the 1940's her family owned slaves so... I guess we didn't listen.

To clarify; they were actually black sharecroppers. I think that everybody just called them slaves.
