What is your opinion on what the Bible says about the wife being the weaker vessel, women leading, and the relation to Husband and Wife? Is it ok for women to lead and teach in the church? Is it ok for the Wife to have a job? Is being a widowed mother and leading the family a sin?

What is your opinion on what the Bible says about the wife being the weaker vessel, women leading, and the relation to Husband and Wife? Is it ok for women to lead and teach in the church? Is it ok for the Wife to have a job? Is being a widowed mother and leading the family a sin? I remember I've read an article of Susan Okin (something 'bout conflicts of rights of women... sorry, don't remember exactly) where she says that any religion at the core conflicts with woman's rights because a religion is a man's product. And she said that almost every woman suffers in her family, 'cause family is the sacred place... So, I think that if Okin is right 'bout: A. 'man's product' and B. 'family values', then Bible, as this book are told as truth-teller, might be agreed with it, isn't it? Ok. We have on the one hand 'traditions', and on the other - 'Bible's prescriptions'. But in Bible hadn't been closed for influences of traditions, so we might need to separete 'traditions' from 'editions' and 'editions' from 'ambitions' to something very basically from christianity. But the task that I ascribed above may be more simplier if we choose scientific to religious methods, because religion itself can contain A and B (Okin's).

In all honestly yeah why not? Remember the time that the bible was written in was a decidedly deadly time. The only way to ensure survival of a tribe or group was through procreation, and a lot of it. Add to that historically childbirth is one of the most deadly things a woman could be assured to go through in her life time, yeah they had to be protected. NOW however that isn't really the same. True there are still many many ways that a woman could die in giving birth, modern medicine has helped alleviate some of that. So why not give them any job that they want? I will also remind people that studies have shown women may in fact be better suited for a very male centric role, fighter Pilot. Women are shown to be able to handle higher G forces, and quicker response times, which makes them excellent pilots. Just sayin...

The bible also says the woman was created as a helper which is why the weaker vessel. I mean sure in my church they cannot do sermons or be in involved certain things which is cool and biblical I'm not complaining. But if a husband of a woman is doing a serman and he's not feeling well and wants her to just finish the serman off with the notes he has written down we won't mind since she's the helper. But they do not have the lead role in the actual church service in my church. Unless in sunday school to help with kids and bible stuff which is separated from the church. Otherwise we just relax and let the men do everything. Where's my couch to lay on? XD

34 Let your women in churches be silent, for they are not allowed to speak, but to be subordinate, as the law says. 35 And if they want to learn what, let them ask their husbands about it; for it is not proper for a woman to speak in church. -First Epistle to the Corinthians-
