All of the first hundred of the most common words in English are of Anglo-Saxon origin! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_common_words_in_English#100_most_common_wordsSo most of the core grammar words are of Germanic origin, whilst much of the literary vocabulary words have been imported from Norman French. And to me the imported French/Latin words adds an even greater touch of beauty to the overall English tongue.
