Do you argue to win or to lose?
I see many feisty debates and apologetics, with little potential for a happy conclusion and wondered what motivates us all.
Preach, teach, or learn comes to mind.
Do you want to loser arguments or win them?
Which gives you the most pleasure and pain?
Regards
DL

When I was younger, winning arguments was one of my concerns. Now I like to read and listen. Sharing my points and learning new things.
In my opinion, debating on internet is pointless most of the times. Because many people are entitled to their opinion. They don't want to change/revise their thoughts or refuse to learn. Having a healthy/normal discussion on internet is something rare these days.

Arguing to win can sure be nice but not arguing is better. So I have limitations. I might argue but eventually would just stop if it's not going anywhere.

Winning in a discussion means something different than convincing someone that they're wrong. Rather, it's an act of persuasion, where the targets are not so much the person one argues with, but whoever are the spectators. So winning can mean to make the person one discusses with look foolish in the eyes of others. If that is achieved, then the person on the losing side is more likely to cement his/her views rather than changing them. Very few, if any, actually change their opinions because someone were able to beat them rhetorically in the eyes of others. For the most part it's just a pissing contest in verbal form.

Literal reading of the Christian myth is what is killing Christianity and the possible discussions. Regards DL

I see no difference between convincing and persuading. You are correct that pride makes many look stupid, hypocritical and dishonest. I think it is particularly tough on those who use mythos and the supernatural instead of logos and reason. Regards DL

I don't think that Christianity, and some other religion, is being killed by using certain kinds of argumentations.
It doesn't really matter what we discuss if we cannot, or are not able, or gave up to understand each other with no specific tools. Animals live their lives in harmony, so do bees, so do birds, so do plants.
I doubt a reason will be a saviour. Children don't need much time and power to get along with each other; the grown-ups instead something are unable to stop filling their thirsty for blood and pain-causin.
The world is mad now. A role of any religion is at risk to become one of the object of destruction by raged crowds. I think the good world we had yesterday has been completely gone.

Statistically speaking, most markers for evil are at the best levels we have ever enjoyed. You see more evil because you do not know the stats. Arguments that Christians use are mythos and not logos which is why Christianity is dead. The idolizing of a genocidal prick of a god, Yahweh/Jesus is falling out of fashion. A good thing. Right? Regards DL

Sounds like you don't care for the truth. Christianity is dead, or have you not noted all the churches for sale? Their vile immoral theology should have died out centuries ago, and would have if not for inquisitions and political power. Regards DL

It's good that there are major Christianity communities that will give a hand for anyone including the irredeemable ones.
