“Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.” (1 Peter 2:18)
What is your explanation for its meaning? I personally find this verse easy to understand.

To not rebel, as Christianity - at least in theory - is a very pacifist idea. I guess it's controversial because it doesn't talk badly about slavery, which was trendy in the Antiquity. In the high school during the religion classes (we had such unfortunately) someone asked the priest why Christianity supports slavery and quoted this fragment, while in fact it doesn't support - it just doesn't say "grab a pitchfork and fight like Spartacus" neither. As far as I remember Jesus gave a hint in his Sermon on the Mount to accept the fate, as God supposedly knows better what is good for an individual.
But whether it's a good advise or not is another story.

If so I am kind of curious how they view this verse and how the different beliefs interract in one household.

I think my guess would be the same as the before poster that you should embrace your fate (bear your cross as christians say) "submitt also to the cruel" and dont rebel. I dont know whether thats good or not though. Im now really curious about your interpretation Elizabeth.

Ok so here is my meaning of it. For the word slave it can mean any title really where you have someone higher than you who would be the master. I don't necessarily think it means just slave. Basically a worker and his boss can work in this case. Like at my work I am the worker (slave) and my boss is the master. My boss tells me what to do and if I don't want to get fired or be in trouble I must listen to my boss (master). Sometimes you may not like your boss/master so he may not not nice or cruel as the verse puts it. So this is second part of the verse...so whether you like your master/boss or not you must show him respect by still listening to him or I guess you can get a new master but if not you must learn to work with a cruel master. Or another case would be slave (people) and God (master). In this case God the master is always good and we must obey and respect Him. In the world we may have cruel masters though but must respect them nonetheless unless well a new master is needed. But in general, God wants us to be respectful and good to all.

f the Bible says slave are to submit to their masters, it means that, slaves must be loyal to their masters and they shouldn't give up if their masters treat them badly. God will bless such servant.

The first thing which comes to my mind is - What's the definition of slaves here?
Who are the masters? And for what reasons, the masters are being written as cruel, this is still easy, though. But what's is being referred here?

Isn't this in terms of corporate? But I don't think so that Bible and Jesus would talk about corporations. It might have some different meaning.

Here we are talking about people's obedience to his superiors! Nothing more in my opinion! In English there is the word -slave- although in other translations it doesn't sound so tough!
