In the diagnosis of a disease they say positive to mean there is infection. In English, positive means good and negative means bad.

Positive can have many meanings in English, the same can be said of the word positive in other languages. Positive for test results can be said to mean the condition for which the person is being tested does exist. Not for example to be confused with oh yes very good he has an infection.....which we of course would not be happy to say in those tones. So to conclude with more ideas of positive and its usage. Hopeful about a situation; Good/useful/; expressing agreement/support; perhaps others could give you more examples. Just to note though that today in day youngsters are using good as bad and bad as good ??? can't for the life of me think why as very confusing

Yes, you're right. I was so confused when I moved here and had to do a TB test for work. I was like uhhhh is this result bad? . I'm sure they gave me a weird look too . Especially when I was like I hope it's a positive/+
