According to Russia Today in Spanish, the Chinese Government wants Mexico to pay 600 millions of dollars as a indemnisation for the cancel of a bidding that a Chinese company won, but the Mexican government canceled. Is about a High Speed train.
The Chinese government says that "They didn't acted in a transparent way, with a good will, and they didn't guaranteed a legal process".
This actually is not a debt, so I honestly don't believe that Mexico will pay that. (México already had issues with the Trump Administration, if they don't want to pay the wall, they will also not pay for that.)
What I'm looking here, is that China is making a mistake with this. The reason is that Mexico currently is looking for more economical partners, and China was one of the points to interest. Mexico currently don't have any debt with China, and also Mexico have a huge deficit with the trade with China. The current Chinese presence in Mexico, is almost non existence. And also, Mexico is having diplomatic problems with the Chinese main ally in the region: Venezuela. So This will hurt Mexico-China relations. And Mexico is currently in a very defensive way.
My question is about how this will affect China's foreign affairs with the Latin American countries involved in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As Mexico is currently a huge country that is currently trying to look for other economical partners. Specially looking towards Japan, and South Korea, and in the Pacific Alliance (In which you see Peru, Chile, and Colombia involved)
Will Mexico became an problem for China as China try to increase its influence in Latin America, now that Mexico is trying to look some other places?
