Hi Elizabeth
I tested my brother's DNA with Family Tree DNA, I have a tree on Ancestry and tested my DNA there.
Why might you ask 2 different companies? Well when I first started my Ancestry research many moons ago, they did not do testing in America for England due to posting DNA samples through the post.
So I hooked up with Family Tree DNA when they first started testing in England. I would thoroughly recommend them. 123andme also came later but I felt it was more interested in other areas of of exploring your DNA results.
Some say Family Tree DNA is expensive but you get a lot for your money and if you discuss with the Group/Team leader he/she will let you know what snp's to order which would more likely give you positive results and not waste your money on those you do not need to get tested for.
Get your dad to do his, it is fascinating to work out your origins and there is so much now on the Internet to help.
