The Truly Married Woman ( By ABioseh Nicol)
I have just read Nicol's short story "The Truly Married Woman". It is about the unwed couple who lived together for 12 years before they finally decided to formally get married. Through the the 12 years Aye woke up at five in the morning to prepare the tea and breakfast for her lover Ajaye and she borne him three children, and now pregnant with the fourth. They made a big wedding ceremony attended by family and friends. The next morning, Ajaye woke up and he could not see Aye around him. She was also not in the kitchen as he expected her. He called to her and she answered him. He asked her if she was OK and she answered positively. He said to her i thought you were in the Kitchen preparing the tea and breakfast. She said to him " Ajaye, i have lived with you for 12 years serving you as my lover. Now i am a truly married wife not your mistress and you are my husband not my lover .You need to show me some respect. So, please, go to the kitchen and make yourself a cup of coffee.
