What are the most common myths and stereotypes about what Indians eat? The biggest myth, of course, is that India is a largely vegetarian country. But that's not the case at all. Past "non-serious" estimates have suggested that more than a third of Indians ate vegetarian food. If you go by three large-scale government surveys, 23%-37% of Indians are estimated to be vegetarian. By itself this is nothing remarkably revelatory. But new research by US-based anthropologist Balmurli Natrajan and India-based economist Suraj Jacob, points to a heap of evidence that even these are inflated estimations because of "cultural and political pressures". So people under-report eating meat - particularly beef - and over-report eating vegetarian food. Taking all this into account, say the researchers, only about 20% of Indians are actually vegetarian - much lower than common claims and stereotypes suggest.Hindus, who make up 80% of the Indian population, are major meat-eaters. Even only a third of the privileged, upper-caste Indians are vegetarian. The government data shows that vegetarian households have higher income and consumption - are more affluent than meat-eating households. The lower castes, Dalits (formerly known as untouchables) and tribes-people are mainly meat eaters. -- www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-43581122

Dude, I am done talking with you and wasting my time. It's high time you stopped posing as a scholar or intellectual over here and start getting an education, and learn the basics of english language and conversational etiquette first.
Look who is talking with whom
You better get educated first.
And for me, don't worry.
You worry about yourself
Did you read that FARMER?

It was the Buddha and Mahavira who created a culture of nonviolence and vegetarianism in India.
As usual, you people claim that hinduism is an ofshoot of aryan people, however, always worship and talk about non aryan people.
Aryan texts mentions about cattle sacrifices, so how is hinduism related with aryan culture, when it emphasies on non violence?
hindu people hardly worship any of the aryan lords who were Indra ,Mitra, Varuna, Nasatya, rather it's ram and krishna who are worshipped.
I have not seen any temple dedicated to Indra, Mitra, Varuna, Nasatya in India, but yes, have seen people fighting for some temple in ayodhaya for a so called person, uh yeah, you worship that FICTITIOUS PERSON AS RAM.

Deccan plateau people in india, are a different group, and they have separate kingdoms, and ethnicities, such as telugu, tamil, karnatis, kerala etc.
And they also have very complex castes.
More importantly, they hate central asian people, but love white man
European invaders settled at these regions, and there were hardly any resistance by these deccan plateau people.
They think they are very modern, because they can speak english , and APE western education.

The post is about hinduism being a vegetarian, and also, the founders of hinduism claim that their religion is ofshoot of vedic aryans.
Vedic aryans themselves were a meat eating tribes, so how can these two even be clubbed together?
The only thing is, hinduism is guided by mercantile classes, who have inhabited the entire north india.
This should be FINAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN YOU AND ME HERE.

Yeah, I know about how ethnically divided India is. In the the American south we are ethnically different from the North as well. We're mostly Southern English and Ulster Scots colonial Americans while the whites in the North are mixed between a whole melenge of European ethnic groups, Italian, German, English, Irish, Dutch, Scottish, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, and whatever else comes to mind. My mother is from the North and my father's mother's side of my family come from a bunch of Germans and Swiss that somehow wound up in the south so I have more German than the average southerner and a little bit of Scandinavian and East Anglian English. Anyways, yeah your Indian southerners sounds like our American northerners who think they're more sophisticated, intelligent, and educated than us. Yet for some reason they keep moving down here in droves. They're like locusts.

it actually depends, on how the system is designed. First of all, idea of monolithic india itself is nonsensical.
And it also depends on priority, the regions like kashmir always had war, since the time aryans arrived here, kashmir and jammu has been warring
Similarly, the gangetic belt people wants to impose themselves on entire india, both the brahmin - bania, gang, that's what we call them.
And south indies are different, they are hardcore slaves of americans.

Even in the mahabharatha, nonviolence and vegetarianism has been stressed as austerities that result in greater spiritual merit.
Vegetarianism became more prevalent due to the efforts of Buddha and Mahavira later on. You just don't have the brains to understand all this in context.
//The only thing is, hinduism is guided by mercantile classes, who have inhabited the entire north india.//
The vaishyas are prevalent along with the Kshatriyas and Brahmins and Shudras, and in today's India, many have changed their professions suiting the conditions.

this is the conspiracy here, too push down people who don't succumb to this hindutva culture.
They are even banning and inflating prices of wine etc.
I don't understand how can one be strong without eating meat, drinking alcohol etc? These are necessary fuels to channelize the energy for body, and mind , because brain is the most demanding organ of humans.

All the jobs are moving down south because we have very low taxes on businesses and ban labor unions. The south is actually the fastest growing part of the Union economically and if it were its own nation would it would be the third largest economy in the world behind the rest of the US and China. The North on the other hand is losing industry and jobs to the south and to foreigners creating the "rust belt". Donald Trump came to power because he appealed to the anxieties of the white working class in the northern rust belt who blamed their loss of jobs to foreign countries on free trade and immigrants. Donald Trump's anti immigration stance and tariffs to protect their industries from leaving the country are what tipped the balance in his favor.

How does one be strong and intellectual by drinking alcohol ! Do you see chess grandmasters or scientists consuming alcohol before their chess games or theoretical calculations respectively ! In fact alcoholism has been linked with brain damage, liver disease, pancreatitis, cancer, immune system dysfunction, osteoporosis, heart and cardiovascular diseases along with high mortality rates in accidents, Please desist from such nonsense in the name of God ! I beg you.

Every Hindu Is a Dindu
No manly nation would put up with a caste system. Only neurotic weaklings would lie to themselves about the dogma that slavishness to inherited power will pay off in becoming a member of that caste after reincarnation. thesageofmainstreet: Every Hindu Is a DinduWhat is Dindu if I may ask ! Checked the dictionary but did not find it.
Caste system is just a feudal system that was present in europe, japan and Korea. It does not have a basis in the Vedas or Srutis and is just a manmade system that became obsolete with time.
The vedic sages, Buddha, Mahavira and Guru Nanak have also taught about the equality and fraternity of all human beings.
If We Have to Do It on Our Own, So Must This Toxic Clique
No one has a right to his father's wealth, property, position, or influence. All traces of this cancer must be eradicated. It is the source of the decline and fall of all civilizations, but that fact never reaches the public, because unearned inherited power and its pathetic flunkie wannabes control all transmissions of ideas.

The Indian empire had been a single entity during the time of Chandragupta Maurya of Shudra origin and who defeated the Greeks under Seleucus. It was also a single political entity under Ashoka the Great and Samudragupta two milleniums back.
oh, so you have finally accepted your own reality, SLAVE wrong, it were shunga aryans who defeated the greeks, by using the pashtun services. only under the mauryan empire that india was united, but after that, they got split. You mean 2000 years back? the ashoka which you people hail as buddhas was not the mauarya ashoka, that asoka had greek subjects.
Nice fantasies.
I go by the history books.
HEIRHEADS HAVE NO RIGHT TO EXIST Histwhorey. It never teaches the democratic fact that America defeated the British in two wars solely because the guillotine-fodder aristocratic system only used a tiny percentage of the nation's military-leadership talent. Andrew Jackson, who defeated Wellington's division, would have never been allowed to become even the lowest-ranked officer in the British army. This is the most important idea of all time, yet it never makes into books the ruling class allows to be published. India was an even worse enemy of talent; that's why the British easily overran a people who outnumbered the Redcoats 10,000 to 1. Don't be a mind-slave for what lying historians tell us about intraclass conflict causing the conquest. Those academic bookworms are pseudo-intellectual slaveboys of plutocratic parasites. They'll even admit, in cases that don't threaten their Masters, that when one class achieves sole power, it starts to fight within itself. The first famous example was the absolute birth-class supremacy that was achieved when the patricians murdered the Gracchi; the civil wars won by the first two Caesars were the inevitable result. The same happened in Korea, which lost its independence for the first time in 2,000 years because of crushing a peasant revolt in the late 19th Century.
