www.mikraite.org/Is-the-Old-Testament-obsolete-tp1953.htmlI don't mean that the Old Testament is obsolete because its ideas no longer apply. I mean that the Old Testament is obsolete because we are now living in an idiocracy where almost no one has the intelligence to understand it. Judaism and modern Christianity have no idea what the Old Testament is about. But Jesus and Muhammad clearly understood it. I think even Christians during the Enlightenment (1600s and 1700s) had a fair understanding of the Old Testament. But we seem to be living in the most stupid time in history. This may be partly because of the dysgenic effect of modern culture. But also because of the brain damage caused by excessive use of electronics by children. Whatever the reason, the drop in intelligence that I have seen in my lifetime has been unbelievable, and this may well render the Old Testament obsolete. Religions can be categorized by whether they work for smart or stupid people. Islam, Judaism, and traditional Christianity work for both. Modern Christianity and modern Western culture only work for stupid people. The Old Testament, by itself, only works for smart people which is why it never produced a popular religion. But as a part of the traditional Christian Bible, the Old Testament was undoubtedly appreciated by smart traditional Christians. Today there is no one left to appreciate the Old Testament. I think it is time for me to accept this fact.

I doubt the divide is between smart & stupid people, but practice & faith in (or not) whatever notion or verses appeals to one. Most people now and in the past are not sages or even very intelligent, but that did not prevent millions of Buddhists, Hindus, etc. from leading ethical lives. Competence, much less mastery of an entire corpus of a religion is not required or even helpful to most.
Yet, as Buddha said 'all things are impermanent' so his teachings are being obscured by the befogged minds of modern folk.

It is obsolete to me. Just the ten commandments carry over to the new testament. There needed to be some kind of transition from OT religion to NT Chrsitianity.
In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Hebrews 8:13

So you take it in hand and to memory or forehead as holy and become marked in the beast empowering laws of false peace and death and hell as the only answer to peace. Making you to follow pale horse and rider thinking it most holy. It is all obsolete dear. The only way out is to see it for that and to follow the law of do to others as you would have them do for you. No one wishes to have such evils imposed on them in truth

The law (10 commandments) are summarized into these 2.

People can be ethical regardless of intelligence by following a good religion. But my specific purpose in promoting the Old Testament was to save intelligent people from modern culture. When I was younger, my 2 intelligent friends were destroyed by modern culture (insanity and suicide). Modern culture would destroy any intelligent person who remains in it because it is so hostile to intelligence. So my idea was to use the Old Testament to draw intelligent people out of modern culture. But now I have concluded that this is no longer an issue because there are no intelligent people left in modern culture.

If harmless ethics or even altruistic ones are lived, then any native intelligence is protected or expanded. In Buddhism sila or disciplined ethics, comes first. Not killing, no stealing, no misconduct etc. are the purificatory foundation for intelligence and eventually Wisdom. So I worry more about the destruction of good words, thoughts & deeds, rather than intelligence.

Because modern culture is evil, intelligence is not protected in it, so I wanted to address this problem. But this problem is no longer relevant. What is still relevant is protecting good religions for the reasons you mentioned. So I have changed my focus to strengthening Islam. But returning to my initial point, everything in this thread supports my view that the Old Testament is no longer relevant for humanity in general and that I will only study it privately for my own benefit.

I READ THAT THE PERSON THAT PEOPLE WERE FOLLOWING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT AND IS CLAIMED TO BE A SAVIOR SAID THAT THE OLD LAWS NO LONGER APPLY.
BEING A CHRISTIAN REQUIRES THAT YOU NOT LIVE BY THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE LAWS THAT CAME FROM GOD HIMSELF IF YOU READ THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW.
I READ IN ONE VERSION OF THE QURAN THAT MUSLIMS ARE REQUIRED TO OBEY THE TORAH. I READ THE ENTIRE QURAN ONCE IN ONE VERSION AND ONCE IN ANOTHER VERSION. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT QURANS OUT THERE WITH SOME DIFFERENT WORDING.
I WAS DRAWN TO THE QURAN AND ISLAM BEFORE BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS A RELIGION OF ONE GOD AND I HAVE NO FAITH IN A TRINITY.
ONE THING GOD SAID IN THE TORAH IS THAT THERE ARE FALSE PROPHETS AND ONE OF THE SIGNS THAT A PROPHET IS NOT A TRUE PROPHET IS THAT WHAT THEY SAY IS GOING TO HAPPEN WILL NOT HAPPEN.
WHEN IS THE HEREAFTER?
WHEN WILL THE SUPPOSED SAVIOR RETURN AND WHO DID HE SAVE? WHY WOULD A PROPHET OR HOLY MAN SUGGEST THAT YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO LIVE BY GOD'S LAWS AND JUDGEMENT?
GOD HAS NO SON I SAY.
I DO NOT BELIEVE MUHAMMAD IS THE LAST PROPHET. I THINK ANOTHER ONE IS COMING.
I CAN NOT FIND THE WORD JUDAISM IN THE TORAH OR FIRST FIVE BOOKS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY MOSES AND WAS INSPIRED BY GOD. I NO LONGER THINK JUDAISM IS THE OFFICIAL NAME OF THE RELIGION OF THE TORAH.
WHAT SHOULD WE CALL THE RELIGION OF THE OLD TESTAMENT? GOD KNOWS BEST.
I NOTICE SOME PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES JEWISH OR MUSLIM WEARING A HAT THAT LOOKS LIKE A HAT I SEE A CATHOLIC POPE WEARING ON TV. WHY IS THIS?
I WOULD NOT CONSIDER A RELIGION OBSOLETE BECAUSE FEW PEOPLE WHAT TO BE APART OF IT.

I READ THAT THE PERSON THAT PEOPLE WERE FOLLOWING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT AND IS CLAIMED TO BE A SAVIOR SAID THAT THE OLD LAWS NO LONGER APPLY. No, Jesus never said this. Someone else said this later in the New Testament. No, Matthew says the opposite, see Matthew 5:17-20. Some Christians take Matthew seriously, like conservative Mennonites. The differences are only in translation. The Quran does not require Muslims to obey the Torah. In the Quran, this is just the afterlife. The Old Testament is not a law book. The Old Testament and Quran have almost the same ethics. They only differ in how to implement the ethics. I believe that the Quran came because people became too stupid to understand the Old Testament. The Quran isn't clear on this subject, only saying that Muhammad is the seal of the prophets and leaving up to interpretation what this means. That is great progress. It doesn't need a name because so few people follow it. Not completely obsolete because I follow it, but obsolete for most of humanity.

HAVE YOU READ THE ENTIRE BOOK OF MATTHEW?
WHY WOULD MATTHEW NOT BE IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN? WHICH GOSPEL DO YOU SUGGEST THEY READ THAT QUOTES THEIR SAVIOR?
HAVE YOU READ THE QURAN?
HAVE YOU READ GENESIS TO DEUTERONOMY? YOU DO NOT RECALL READING ANY LAWS IN THOSE BOOKS AND WHO SPOKE THEM?
WHEN YOU SAY OBSOLETE DO YOU MEAN NO LONGER VALID OR IMPORTANT?

HAVE YOU READ THE ENTIRE BOOK OF MATTHEW? Yes Modern Christians are too lazy to read the Bible. Yes Yes. There are laws and stories and other things, all of which contribute to the purpose of the Torah which is to teach ethics. Yes, a book is no longer valid or important for a population that has become too stupid to understand it.
