I am open to romance novels, although I have never read one. I am mostly a non-fiction only guy.. Once I have kids I'll be much more open to fiction ;p
If I had to pick it would be Eoin Colfer!
I have read some of Edgar Allen Poe's poems, I believe he is known for his suspense writing..

Well, I only read nonfiction books these days but since nonfiction authoring extends to comic books I would say my favorite is Alan Moore. I despise Alan Moore as a person but he is hands down the greatest comics writer that ever lived. My favorite work of his is Batman, The Killing Joke which is the character defining work of the Joker who is probably the greatest villain in any medium from now to the beginning of time.

This is the one of the most brilliant writer I've ever read! I like him not only for his marvelous manner, for his narration, for his tricks, for his wonderful and mystery, and mostly - unexpected plots, but for his further influence on many different writers and philosophers all over the world. I don't even know what to say about the most interesting work of him... I like "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Leper Kind", "Pit and the Pendulum", "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym...", and many many others. I think I love all of his works.

Harlan Coben and Christopher Pike. I have more authors I like but I'm bad with names so only these two came to mind.

mine has been mostly detective and crime authors, especially aurthar conan doyle, and robert lludlum.
But i feel, robert lludlum's work involves lot of encounters, and was more action packed, so it's americanized.

I agree with you, he's totally like the most eloquent writer I've ever read IMO, I think he tries to fit as many stylistic words as he can into one big sentence which can often seem like triple the length of the normal sentence ..
