In Dubai, a tourist from Scotland was sentenced to three months in prison because he accidentally touched the thigh by an unknown man. Reported by the Daily Mail. The incident occurred in a crowded bar. "Attacker" took drinks at the bar, walked back to her table through the crowd and touched the man's hand, who was on his way. According to the tourist, he just didn't want to pour someone a drink. Angered by the stranger complained to the police. Although he eventually withdrew his complaint, the Prosecutor's office continued its consideration of the case. Scottish man accused of obscene behaviour in a public place and sentenced to a prison term. The defense intends to appeal the decision. Relatives tourists launched a campaign in his defense, and now, if they come to UAE, they also face prison. The laws of this country provide for criminal punishment for criticizing the authorities online. ria.ru/world/20171022/1507344612.html

And bringing the family into this...my brain hurts now When John causes a car accident in which Jane dies, John faces legal problems and may go to jail as well. I don't think it's a lame reason. United Arab Emirates may have a ridicilous law, but it's an independent country from different cultural area, with different values. While going there, one must respect its law and not be surprised that it worked. On the other hand, the tourist may simply pick other destination, let's say Jordan or Lebanon, and be happy. But no, of course it's necessary to go to freaking Dubai because it's so fancy nowadays.

Your example is more different though but this one example here can happen to anyone at any time whether they are old enough to drive or not. But yeah, best not to go to Dubai. XD

Do your vacationing in a country whose customs are not so alien to you and you'll avoid some serious trouble with the authorities.

The way I see it, the tourist got his/her share of the local culture. :-)
