Mine is this guy. Why? Because he spends most of his time slaying giants and trolls with a hammer. He's basically the embodiment of the ancient Germanic culture, a heroic warrior who slays monsters in defense of mankind. His Celtic counterpart which differs little from him Taranis could be interchanged with him as my favorite.

I like Zeus and Athena if they count. They do count as mythic [mythological] gods, since they originated as such, but later they became non-mythic. Before the Israelic conquest of Jerusalem, Zeus (or "ana-Zeus":the God above) had a temple on a hill of Jerusalem. The temple would be called *Zeu-on" {>Sion} and the hill itself would acquire the same name. Eventually Zion or Sion became synonymous with the city itself [Jerusalem]. The modern Zionist occupation of the land opted for "Israel" rather than the proposed "Zion", but they never seized the temple-mount, since it has a Mosque on top of the ruins of the ancient (or Soloman's) temple. As for Athena (the personified wisdom that came from Zeus' head), she will be called Hagia Sophia (Holy Wisdom) in Christian times and was no longer believed to be mythic.

Oh so you're saying they were mythic at first but became very popular in Jerusalem that some Christian took them as real and then had other pagan gods they worshipped? Weren't some in charge then very critical about it as to even kill them? Like Pharisees went after Jesus because they thought He had a different God to kill Him kind of thing.

Weren't some in charge then very critical about it as to even kill them? Like Pharisees went after Jesus because they thought He had a different God to kill Him kind of thing. I think we are complicating matters. I will address only two points. // All gods started in myths (man-made creations), but, by personifications and analogical thinking, gods [storm-powers, volcanic-fires/ powers, etc.] were believed to be real. In Christian times, the pagan gods were believed to be false (unreal) gods or, as we say today, mythic. In the 13th century, Aquinas wrote a Summa Contra Gentiles, a theological work against the gentiles [Non-Jewish and non-Christian believers]. In the 18th century, the Christian Vico attempted to justify the historical existence of the pagan religions and thus developed an anthropological theory of history, which posits a periodical "modification" of the human mind, willed by divine Providence. He failed to discover the mythic nature of the Judeo-Christian God. In this thread, the myth/reality opposition is assumed to be valid. // The Galilean Jesus' God was the Canaanite El (see the Elohim in Genesis-1 etc.); the God of the Judeans was Yahweh, as revived by Moses and David. Truly Jesus was a foreigner in Jerusalem and even modern Jews call him anti-Semitic (anti-Judaic), even though he respected the temple of Yahweh. However, as a claimant to the throne of Jerusalem, through David's ancestry, he was a threat to the High Priest of Jerusalem and was eliminated.

Dionysus/Bacchus/Menrva followed by Athena/Apollo/Isis/Toth Do the slashes mean the first 3 are tied in first place and the last 4 tied to 2nd places or do the mean top favorites/other favorites?
