[In the Irish countryside, (Glandore,County Cork,Ireland) megaliths were formed into a circle that aligns with the sunset on the winter solstice. Prehistoric huts nearby, Bronze Age pottery and human remains suggest the monument was used from as early as 1100 BCE.] fromthegrapevine.com[Drombeg is probably Irelands most famous stone circle, it is a recumbent circle with the recumbent stone lying to the south-west. The circle consists of seventeen pillar stones that are graded from the two large portal stones, each 2 metres high, at the north-east towards the recumbent stone. The pillar stones are local sandstone and the recumbent has two cup marks and what looks like an axe -carving on it's upper surface. Towards the centre of the image below are two stones, male left, phallic shaped and the female right lozenge shaped..] megalithicireland.com

To me it was the giants who created that place since we did have really tall people in the past as archealogists have found skeletal remains of big humans. And I'm guessing they created it for worship of some "god" they had and maybe sacrificed there to please them. Such worship and sacrificing were common back then Shrug

The idea that these were places of sacrificial worship has shown very limited and conflicting materials and content. Archeological excavation as it stands today has shown they were not actually places of sacrifice, but were more along the lines of celestial markers etc. This site and similar ones to this were inhabited various times throughout the ages, so it is difficult to discern what is attributed to the original builders around the site, aside from the immense megalithic stones. The druidic sacrificial notion was brought to light in the mid to late nineteenth century during a famous craze at that time of the psychic and supernatural. In actuality these complexes were built potentially thousands of years before the druids who may have inhabited the area in the late bronze age around 400-800ad. So, taking into consideration that these sites are much older than what has previously been thought, they're origins and who built them is still somewhat of a mystery. As you said regarding the potential for it possibly being built by giants, there has been various excavations in many different areas, globally, that have unearthed remains of people with extraordinary body types and stature. I'm not so sure about any of those remains being found near this particular site, but considering the sites potential age many alternative theories have surfaced. These are usually dismissed and not taken into consideration by mainstream archeology and sometimes if not always hidden, covered up from the public, or unfortunately destroyed. None the less, this site and ones like it are very impressive and there is still much to be learned about them as continued excavation and research is done.

What if it was used to tell time throughout the day? For some reason it's almost looks like a clock and you can see shadows. Maybe these shadows told them things. Or they just wanted some sort of monument for creativity. Shrug

They were constructed with a combination of creativity and function in mind, and yes they were most likely used to tell time (seasons, years, days, etc.)
